Permalloy

The Permalloy is a magnetic Alliage of Fer and Nickel, discovered in 1914 by Gustav Elmen of the Laboratoires Beautiful.

It generally contains 20% of Fer and 80% of Nickel. It has a magnetic Perméabilité high, a low Coercitivité, a Magnétostriction near to zero and a significant Magnétorésistance anisotropic.

There exist other types of Permalloy, in these cases a prefix is added:

  • the " 45 permalloy" , a Alloy of 45% of Nickel with 55% of Iron.
  • the " molybdenum permalloy" , alloy of 81% of Nickel with 17% of Iron and 2% of Molybdenum. This alloy was invented by the Laboratoires Beautiful in 1940; it made it possible to improve the inductive compensation of the reactance of the phone lines long distances.

The Permalloy is used for the magnetic shielding and the play-back heads magnetic.
