Perk exchange
The Central Perk is a fictitious coffee of the district of Greenwich Village with New York.
It is located close to the apartment of Monica and was one of the major poles of the televised series Friends. It was about one of the important places where the six main characters passed the majority of their spare time, discussing their problems.
Origins
This coffee is inspired by the Cholmondeley' S , coffee and living room of the of the Université of Brandeis, where the creators of the show continued their studies. The name of the coffee is a mixture of “Central Park” (reference to the famous park of New York) as well as Perk , which is a term referring at the nervous state that a too great amount of drinks to cafeine can generate.
Direction of the Perk Exchange
The Central Perk belongs to a man named Terry (played by max Wright), which, according to Rachel and Phoebe, is insane. Terry often did not appear, and left the management of its coffee with Gunther, which became a permanent pillar of the Central Perk .
Personnel
Rachel Green worked as a waitress with the Central Perk . It was its first job. Unfortunately, it confused the customer orders, was mistaken in the arrangement in the objects, forgot to clean the percolator, and rejected its faults on the fact that it did not have anything of it to make of its work.
Finally, Rachel left its station in order to launch out in the fashion, at the time of an episode of the third saison.
Joey Tribbiani became in its turn waiter when it realized that its trade of actor did not enable him to gain enough money to live. It was as pitiful as Rachel, primarily because it had the feeling to regress socially. Its main issue was that it offered free drinks or muffins to the pretty women who attended the coffee, pretexting that it was their birthday in order to avoid the reprimands of Gunther.
Rachel made some recommendations with Joey for its work with the Central Perk :
- that passes always better with the smile
- the customer is right always
- if a customer is tedious, it is necessary to spit in its coffee
Animation of the Perk Exchange
Phoebe Buffay itself a pillar of the Central Perk , singing was accompanied by its guitar of strange songs such as You which been able the cat , with an often perplexed audience. One day, it failed to be replaced by a professional singer (played by Chrissie Hynde, singer of the group The Pretenders).Ross also took part in the musical animation of the Perk Exchange while playing of its keyboard but renonça with its statute of " star" (nobody except Phoebe seems to appreciate its music) when the latter decides to stop vis-a-vis its too great talent.
The decoration
The large orange settee, the green armchair on the line, the central coffee table as well as the chair and the table on the left are the elements most frequently employed in the decoration.
In the first episodes, in spite of the supposed success of the coffee, these places were always available. Then, the scenario writers turned this detail in derision, and an episode, the six characters enter the coffee and discover that their places fetishes are occupied. They are looked at, then, perplexed, turn back finally.
In another episode, two desperate men (interpreted by Robin Williams and Billy Crystal) invite themselves on the famous settee.
Once, Ross and Chandler dispute with two other men who do not want to yield the place to them.
