Peristalsis
One calls peristalsis the whole of the muscular contractions (“peristaltic movements”) allowing the progression of the contents of a hollow body inside this body.
Peristalsis of the digestive tract
Concerning the digestive tract, it is about the progression of food of the Bouche (more precisely of the Pharynx) until the Rectum. This physiological phenomenon, also called digestive motricity, is a spontaneous mechanism of the digestive Tract. Without peristalsis, the mixing of food and the absorption of the Nutrient S, i.e. elements contained in the Food S, are impossible.
The hollow bodies of the digestive Système are surrounded by muscles which make it possible their wall to contract. The movements of these walls not only make progress the liquids and the food but also carries out a mixture of this bolus in each body concerned. They are these movements characteristic of the esophagus, the Estomac and the Intestin which constitute the peristalsis. The peristalsis resembles the Onde of a oceanic wave which would cross the muscle. The Muscle of the body concerned narrows then slowly propels the portion of food towards the continuation of the digestive tract.
Peristalsis is the process off involuntary wave-like successive muscular contractions by which food is moved through the Digestive leaflet.
Broad The, hollow organs off the Digestive system contain Muscle that enables to their walls to move. The movement off organ walls edge Propel food and liquid and also edge mix the content within each organ. Typical movement off the Esophagus, Stomach, and Internal is called peristalsis. The action off peristalsis looks like year ocean wave moving through the muscle. The muscle off the organ produces has narrowing and then propels the narrowed portion slowly down the length off the organ. Thesis waves off narrowing push the food and fluid in face off them through each hollow organ. -->
Other bodies
One also meets the peristalsis in the Oviducte S, the Uretère and other bodies tubular.
Peristalsis apart from biology
Peristaltic pump
A Peristaltic pump is a Pompe which uses the phenomenon of the peristalsis.
