Pedro Pubill Calaf (born the March 26th 1935 with Mataró), more known under the name of Peret , is a Chanteur, Guitariste and Spanish Compositeur of origin gipsy, and probably the most famous interpreter of the Rumba Catalan, known as also rumba of Barcelona .
Its play of guitar, called " Ventilador ", which consists in using the case of resonance like percussion instrument, its reputation ensured and inspired by many imitateurs.
Biography
Peret was born in Mataró (province of Barcelona) in 1935. His/her father was itinerant fabric salesman, and as his/her son accompanied it in his displacements in all the Catalogne (Balearic Islands included/understood) it hardly attended the school. According to the rumor its training of the reading was done in the street thanks to the billboards.Bitten guitar and songs gipsies, it created, at the 12 years age, with a cousin a duet which was called Los Hermanos Montenegro and which made its first public appearance with the Tívoli theater of Barcelona, at the time of a festival for children.
In 1947, it records a disc which passes unperceived, and continues its life of street pedlar. If it goes on then a journey in Argentine is not to sing but negotiate the purchase of cloths. Then it takes part in some radio broadcasts of the Catalan coast, and it gains there a small reputation which starts to grow in Barcelone. It then records two discs which pass regularly on the local waves. Its marriage with Santa , a gipsy of the family, inspires the song " later to him; Semi Santa" , which was one of its more popular.
It is interested much in the Catalan rumba, whose creator is another gipsy of Barcelona, the guitarist and singer Antonio González, known as El Pescaílla, which married Lola Flores later. These nuptials made Pescaílla famous of the day at the following day, but it put practically fine at its career, because of the temperament of the wife, ombrageuse that the Spanish scene knew.
In the middle of the years 1960 it left to settle with Madrid, and in the capital of the state its large ascension. starts Some of its compositions, like " El muerto vivo" , a sharp success in all the mediums meets. Whereas the Anglo-Saxon music is everywhere with the mode, the rumbas of Peret cause also the enthusiasm of part of youth.

Its master stroke is undoubtedly " Borriquito" , he is the author (words and music), and who coincided with the " boom" tourist which made Spain a destination with the mode.
In 1982, and suddenly, one learned that Pedro Pubill gave up the song to dedicate himself to the Evangélique Church of Philadelphia, where he exerted during 9 years. Then, without disavowing its faith, it created a recording company. In 1992 it took part in the ceremony of the Olympic Games of Barcelona.

Peret composed several songs in Catalan. One of most known is mig El amic , dedicated to his/her father: according to Manual Vázquez Montalbán, the father of Pepe Carvalho, it is there the best song of the Nova Cançó.
