Percuphone
The percuphone is a musical instrument invented in 1970 by Patrice Moullet.
The instrument
In the acoustic beginning (struck cords), the instrument is currently an electromechanical interface to manually control and in real-time the systems of production sound numerical.The instrument comprises 256 votes of polyphony, a bank of 20.000 sounds on computer (virtual sampleurs) and a octophonic interface fire wire.
This instrument was developed with the assistance of Alstom for the motorization and of the Ircam for the analogical interface of conversion. 57 prototypes were constructed since its creation.
Uses
Principal integrations in the live performance:- 1970 - 1984: Catherine Ribeiro and the group the Alps
- 1984: ARIANE Mnouchkine (permanent acquisition)
- 1987: Creation of a monumental prototype for inhuman the of Marcel the Herbarium
International round: Theater of the Fields-Élysées, Tokyo, Osaka, Stockholm, Athens, Madrid.
Creation of the first numerical prototype. Design and realization by Patrice Moullet for the part of Bernard Christmas the castle of scene : 30 representations with the Bataclan (Paris).
The percuphone was the subject of many modifications according to the advance of new technologies and of its participation in the spectacles: Large palace ( Europe of creators ), Park of the Villette (2004), Parvis de la Défense (2005).
Two others percuphones belong to the town of Montlucon (Museum of the popular musics) and to James Trussart (original metal guitar - Los Angeles).
