Perchaude

The perchaude or Canadian pole is a fish of the family of the Percidae.

Distribution

This fish, abundant in the lakes and river of Canada and the United States. It was also introduced in Europe.

Identification

Habitat and Biology

The perchaude nourished mainly insects, of small fish (alevins), eggs and of crustacean. Its food varies much according to its size. The pike constitutes one of principal predatory of the adult perchaude. Smaller it has the many predatory ones including the individuals of its own species of bigger size.

It spawning time in spring close to banks.

It is a fish with slow growth approximately 2,5 cm annually.

Commercial fishing

A certain commercial fishing with this species exists, mainly in the hydrographic network of the St-Laurent river. It is the principal fisheries, in term of money value, Ontario.

Sporting fishing

She is recognized like relatively easy to fish and its tender flesh points out that of the plate. On the other hand the large specimens is shown drĂ´lement more difficult and are very coveted. It is a fish snuffed in certain area and considered as undesirable in other rivers. The perchaude is often considered undesirable in rivers where it is not native and which its size remains modest. The population being at present declining in the Lac Saint-Pierre, where it is fished commercially, of the more restrictive quotas were imposed to the sporting fishermen: 10 per day, having a length of at least 19cm.
