Antoine Major general Girardon , French. He was born the 1758 with Chaumont (Haute-Marne) and died the December 5th 1806.
The April 25th 1776, it entered like private the Régiment of Brie, became corporal the September 25th 1778, and made with distinction the Campagnes of America of 1780 with 1783. The April 29th 1781, it took share with the naval action in front of the Martinique, then with the Prise of Tabago, the Siège of York, the Combat of Saint-Christophe, and with the catch of this island in February 1782.
Named in 1789 ordering national guard of Chaumont, it was not long in being in charge of the administrative offices of the directory of the district; but, at the time of the organization of the active national guard, it accepted, with the rank of, command major of the 1st battalion of requisition of Chaumont, and passed successively, in consequence of the enrollments in the 170e and 12th half-brigades of line.
Employed with the Armed with the Rhine-and-Moselle, it was, in year II, with the Affaire of Geisbourg, and in year III, with the Attaque of the bridge of Mannheim. Sent in year IV to the Armed with Italy, it there made the countryside of the year V, and was, the 21 frimaire, promoted chief of brigade of the 12th half-brigade of line. The following year, it ordered Venice, under the orders of Serrurier, since the 3 vendémiaire until the 18 nivôse.
Called with the Armed with Rome, ordered by Gouvion-Saint-Cyr, Girardon was, in the month of floréal, the Affaire of Citadel-Castello, and went against the insurrectionists, whom it beat on Thermidor 11 with Ferentino. It had after this advantage the command of the revolted provinces of the Latium and the Marais Pontins, then known under the name of Département of Circo.
Placé in the division of Macdonald, employed with the Armed with Naples, it was charged, with the seat of this city, to seize the Fort Saint-Elme, and fulfills Celtic dangerous mission with not less skill than of bravery. This action, and the talents which it deployed in the continuation, were worth to him, the 10 floréal year VII, the Brigadier general rank of and the command as a chief of the troops that Macdonald left in the territory of Naples during the evacuation of the kingdom.
These troops which hardly rose with 4.600 men, disseminated on vast extended, had to be defended non-seulement against populations animated by the fanaticism religious, but still against the English, linked with the Portuguese and the Turks, unloaded with Brindes, in the month of meadow. Forced to evacuate strong Saint-Elme the 22 messidor, it concentrated its forces in Capoue, whose allies were not long in forming the seat. This place, almost dismantled, and so deprived of ammunition, that Girardon is lived in the need for melting in balls the cover of the cathedral, was defended with obstinacy; but after having beaten the enemy in ten exits, mainly the 8 and 15 messidor, during which it lost 8 parts of gun, 3 flags, 1 handlebar, the lack of vivres obliged the French general to capitulate on Thermidor 11.
Girardon, employee on his return in France in the departments of the Western, under the general-in-chief Hédouville, was confirmed in its Brigadier general rank of by decree of the 26 vendémiaire year VIII, and by decree of the First Consul of the 8 germinal year IX.
Named member and commander of the Legion of honor the 19 frimaire and 25 meadow year XII, whereas it ordered the Département of Maine-et-Loire, it became, the 12 pluviôse year XIII, Major general, and turned over some time afterwards to Naples, where he died in 1806.
