People village

The Village People is an American group of music of Disco produced by two French: Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo.

The name of the group is a direct reference to Greenwich Village, place where the group was founded, which also counts a great homosexual community. The topic of the songs and the style of the group will make People Village an icon of the homosexual movement .

  • Victor Willis (the police officer, of 1977 to 1980. He is the joint author of several songs of the group, in particular In the navy ) then replaced by Ray Simpson (brother of Valerie Simpson de Ashford & Simpson)

Biography

The idea to found the group comes from Jacques Morali which meets in 1977 with Greenwich Village (New York) a dancer of street in a costume of Indian: Felipe Rose. Rose with the idea to assemble a group joining together the American stereotypes most various.

A little later Morali meets Victor Willis with Broadway, which brings back Alex Briley. With its associate Henri Belolo, Morali engages of hearings to supplement the group.

The People Village will connect many tubes for the period disco music: San Francisco, Macho Man, YMCA, In the Navy, Go West…

The US Navy used the song In the Navy like tool for promotion. US Navy thus placed at the disposal of the group an aircraft carrier, several planes and marine hundreds of on a boat for the turning of the clip with San Diego. On the outlet side of the clip, coupled to a publicity campaign of US Navy, many American newspapers protested against the use of the public funds and the mobilization of the means for the realization of a clip. The scandal made it possible the song to increase its notoriety.

The People Village will have their own film in 1980: Can' T Stop the Music .

The group makes a pause in 1986, before founding its own production company to carry out rounds.

Glenn Hugues (the motorcyclist of the first hour) of 1977 to 1995 is deceased on March 15th, 2001, with old 50 years. In addition to being one of the singers of the group, Glenn Hugues was with the head of Company Village People which furrowed America with a spectacle disco music with the height of the reviews of Broadway. Patient for several years, the singer had left the group in 1995, and had been replaced on scene by Eric Anzalone.
