People for the Ethical Treatment off Animals

Association People for the Ethical Treatment off Animals (or PETA) is a not-lucrative organization with the purpose which defends the rights of the animals. Based in the United States, with Norfolk in Virginia, PETA counts more than one million members and partisans. It is the largest organization in the world working for the rights of the animals.

History

Founded in 1980, association counts 187 employees; it is mainly financed by the gifts of its members. PETA has also offices in Canada, in France, in Germany, in India, in Italy, in the Netherlands, in Spain, in South Africa, in Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Among the groups of PETA one counts also Street TEAM of peta2, a group dedicated to the high-school pupils and to the students Militant S, like " The Foundation to Animal Support Protection" (Fondation financially supporting other associations of animal protection) which manages the credits of PETA. Ingrid Newkirk is the current international president of PETA.

Company name

The slogan of PETA is: “ the animals do not belong to us. We do not have the right of in diposer, that it is for our food, our clothing, our leisures or our scientific experiments. ” According to this principle, PETA concentrates its efforts on four essential problems: the industrial breeding, the breeding of animals with fur, experiments on the animals and spectacles with animals. PETA also attacks problems such that fishing, the massacre of animals considered as vermin, the abusive sequence of the dogs, the cockfights, the Tauromachie, the dogs which one keeps attached in a court and the consumption of meat. One of the objectives of PETA is to inform the public of his position by the means of publicity campaigns, secret investigations, rescue of animals and the Lobbying.
