Penthièvre
The Penthièvre is a traditional country of the Brittany, located at the east and the south of Saint-Brieuc in the East of the Coast-with current Armor. It belongs to the Évêché of Saint-Brieuc. Saint-Brieuc and Lamballe are the principal cities.
With the the Middle Ages, the Penthièvre is a rather important county whose counts (Conan Small the and Constance) are dukes of Brittany of 1156 with 1201. In 1235 Pierre Mauclerc deprives of the county the heir to this line, Henri d' Avaugour, and gives it to his/her Yolande daughter, to which it belongs until in 1272 when Jean {{Ier}} the fact of attaching to the duchy of Brittany. By Jeanne of Brittany the county passes to the family of Châtillon-Blois in 1337, but their heir, Jean {{II}} of Brush, is private county by the duke François {{II}} in 1465 which annexes this one with the Duché of Brittany.
Under Sebastien of Luxembourg, the heir to the Brush with which it stronghold is restored in 1569, Penthièvre is set up in duchy-peerage of France. Since this date the title of duke of Penthièvre was carried by a succession of noble, among which the house of Orleans.
