Pentene
“ Pentène ” is a term which refers to the Alcène S of CH formula and thus corresponds to three different molecules.
Properties
Its density is of 0,65 g/cm. It is insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol.
Isomers
The molecular structure of pentene contains only one double connection. It is the position of the double connection to the first or the second bond C - C which characterizes 1-pentene-1 and 2-pentene. In the majority of the cases, 1-pentene is a by-product of the thermal Craquage of the Pétrole. It can appear during obtaining the ethylene and Propylène during the thermal cracking of hydrocarbon fractions.
1-pentene is seldom isolated only like compound, it appears often mixed with the gasoline or in mixtures with other hydrocarbons in process of Alkylation with the Isobutane in obtaining the gasoline.
2-pentene has two isomers cis and trans.
Synthesis
It is obtained by cracking.
Uses
Raw material for the synthesis of isoprene.
