Penrith (Australia)

Penrith (: 175000 inhabitants) is a city (" City ") in the western suburbs of Sydney in News-Wales-of-South in Australia, with approximately 50 kilometers of the center town, on the Nepean To rivet.

The city owes its name at the town of Penrith in Cumbrie in England.

The area was discovered by Europeans in 1789 when they went up the " Nepean River" which they gave the name of Lord Evan Nepean, under-secretary of state to housing at the time. The first colonists had given to the place surrounding the name of Evan but the governor Lachlan Macquarie changed it for Penrith in 1818. Macquarie ordered to build a road from Sydney until the Nepean River and it was brought into service in April 1811. Another road connecting Parramatta to Penrith was brought into service in 1817; it was prolonged by the road which William Cox made build through the blue Mountains.

The captain Daniel Woodriffe was the first colonist to be settled in Penrith in 1804 after having received a property right on 1000 acres along Nepean River. Penrith became common in 1879 and " City " in 1959.

Penrith has one of the greatest shopping malls of the large-west of Sydney, called at the beginning " Penrith Plaza" and now " Westfield Penrith".
