Penetrance

The penetrance , in Genetic, is the portion of individuals having a given genotype which expresses the corresponding phenotype.

  • the penetrance of a genetic disease is of 100% if this disease is expressed as soon as the genetic conditions are present.

  • For example in the Achondroplasie, penetrance is of 100% at the fetus.
  • In the Chorée de Huntington, penetrance is from 100% to 75 years but that from 50% to 50 years.
  • This concept of penetrance explains why in the case of certain diseases where the Prévalence of gene is high as in the hémochromatose, there exists relatively little of people reached by pathology.
