Pekanbaru

Pekanbaru (" new the marché" in Malayan language), on the island of Sumatra, is the capital of the province of Riau in Indonesia.

Cité quasi-non-existent in the Sixties, Pekanbaru counts in 2005 more 600  000 inhabitants on a territory of 446,50km ². Located not far from fields oil-bearing, the Minas giant exploited by Caltex, which still produces half of the crude indonésien, it is with the Pétrole that the city owes its richness and this demographic multitude.

Pekanbaru has the statute of kotamadya (municipality) and is directed by a mayor ( walikota ) from now on elected by the vote for all. For this reason, it has also a local parliament (DPRD).

One reaches Pekanbaru by the river Siak since Singapore via the island of Bintan, or by the road since the port of Dumai (coming from Malacca in Malaysia).

But simplest is the plane. The airport of Pekanbaru is the base of the company Riau Airlines created by the province of Riau. This company serves:

  • In Indonesia: Batam, Bengkulu, Dumai, Jakarta, Jambi, Medan, Natuna, Padang, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Karang, Tanjung Pinang
