Peer Gynt (Continuations n° 1 and 2)

In 1874, Edvard Grieg composes a Incidental music for the Play Peer Gynt of the Norwegian Dramaturge Henrik Ibsen. Of the 22 numbers, Edvard Grieg will select eight of them, arranging them and réorchestrant them in two continuations for Symphony orchestra.

First continuation

Continuation n° 1, COp 46, was written in 1888

Continuation n° 2, COp 55, was written in 1891

1. Removal of married the , Furioso Allegro - Andante Doloroso

(alternations of 2/4, black = 160 and of 3/4; black = 60, minor ground)

2. Arab Dance , Allegretto Long-lived

(4/4, black = 132, major C)

3. Return of Peer Gynt , Allegro Agitato

(6/8, black pointed = 126, fa# minor)

4. Song of Solveig , Andante - Allegretto Tranquillamente

(alternations of 4/4, black = 72 in the minor and of 3/4, black = 120 in the major one)

The two continuations are written for Symphony orchestra.
