Pedro Jaime Martínez (born the October 25th 1971 with Manoguayabo, Dominican Republic) is a launcher droitier in the major Ligues of baseball.
Martínez started well with 3 seasons gaining between 1994 and 1996. 1997 was the best season of its career with 17 victories for 8 defeats, an average of deserved points of 1,90 and 302 withdrawals over the catches. He was elected almost unanimously the winner of the Trophée Cy Young (25 of the 28 votes).
In 1998, Martínez finished second at the time of the vote for the trophy Cy Young, Roger Clemens being the winner. Martínez recorded 19 victories for 6 defeats and 251 withdrawals on the catches. 1999 was one of the best seasons for a launcher on the basis of the 20th century. It gained 23 parts for 4 lost, 313 withdrawals on the catches and an average of 2,07. It even finished second at the time of the vote for the Meilleur player of the major leagues behind Ivan Rodriguez which gained it with 252 points against 239 for Martínez.
Its excellence continued in 2000 with an average of points deserved of 1,74, the best average since 1978. Since 1973 and the introduction of the Striker indicated into the American League, the best average recorded by a launcher is 1,7419 by Pedro Martínez, almost in equality with Ron Guidry which recorded an average of 1,7427 in 1978. Roger Clemens was classified second in 2000 with an average of 3,70, the double of that of Martínez. Its excellence continued in 2001 and 2002 with 14 and 16 victories. Its percentage of victories with Red Sox is best history of the frankness (117 gained for 37 lost, is 75,97%).
Martínez reached 4 times the eliminatory series with Red Sox. In 1998 Martínez gained the first part of the first series with the Indians of Cleveland. Unfortunately Red Sox lost the three other parts and Martínez was not likely to return. In 1999, Martínez still beat Indians before meeting the Yankees of New York to the second round. In 2003, Red Sox beat the Athletics d' Oakland with the first turn before meeting the Yankees. For the first Martínez time lost against the Yankees in eliminatory series, and Red Sox lost the series to them-even. In 2004, Red Sox beat the Angels d' Anaheim before meeting the Yankees for the second season of at a stretch. Martínez lost against John Lieber who even did not allow him any point. Martínez lost 3 points with 1. After 3 parts, Red Sox lost 3 matches with zero. After three victories of sharp the series was in equality. Red Sox used 4 launchers, of which Martínez with the seventh handle to gain the part and to gain the series 4 matches with 3.
At the time of the world Series, Martínez launched 7 handles without boxing of point at the time of a victory 4 points with 1 against Jeff Supan of the Cardinals of Saint-Louis. It is the only part which he played, Red Sox having gained the series 4 victories with 0.
