Pedro Damiano

Pedro Damiano (born Damião de Odemira with Odemira, Portugal, 1480-1544) was a Apothicaire and player of failures Portuguese. He is known to have written a treaty of failures. Often confused with the Italian monk Petrus Damiani, it is the first Problémiste Portuguese.

In its book, which comprises ten chapters, Damiano suggests that the failures were invented by Xerxès, and that this is why they are called Xadrez in Portuguese and Spanish Ajedrez in .
