Pedro Alvares Cabral
Pedro Álvares Cabral , wire of noble Portuguese, (Belmonte in 1467 - died with Santarém in 1520 or 1526) was a navigator Portuguese charged by the king with the Portugal Manuel I {{er}} with continuing the work of Vasco de Gama and going to the Indies. Pedro Alvares Cabral is regarded as “the discoverer of the Brésil”, although actually, the Spaniard Vicente Yáñez Pinzón preceded it by little on the coasts by the North-East by Brazil to the mouth by the the Amazon.
After the return of Vasco de Gama of the Indies, the one second forwarding was organized. Cabral was with the head of a fleet of 13 caravels. Started from Lisbon on March 9th 1500 and, according to the instructions of Vasco de Gama, he arrived the April 22nd 1500 on the coasts of the Brésil, and took possession of the territory in the name of the Portuguese crown.
After a short stopover, it returned a boat, ordered by Gaspar de Lemos, in Portugal to inform the king of his discovery. It set out again towards the East, and doubled the Cape of Good Hope in the South of Africa, explored the coasts of the Mozambique. He arrived to Calicut on September 13rd 1500 which he besieged after having concluded a commercial treaty with the prince from Cochin and where he establishes a counter.
He returned to Lisbon the June 23rd 1501 (or 1502???). He is buried with Santarém.
