Pedogenesis (biology)

See also: Pedogenesis

The pedogenesis indicates in biology the act of reproduction of one individual in a larval state , having thus reached its sexual maturity but not its physical maturity. It is associated with the Progenèse, where sexual maturity is reached in a youthful state and where the organization does not go further in physical maturity.

The behavior of pedogenesis meets in the insects which reproduce at the larval stage without going until the adult stage. It is a form of Parthénogenèse known at some Insecte S: Chironomidae and Cecidomyiidae .

At certain species like the midges, the larva is born almost always pregnant and reproduces quickly. Often, these insects will devour their mother during the process. This pedogenesis usually occurs for the periods of food abundance in the environment, and it will continue until this abundance ceases.
