Pectinidae

The pectinidés , of Latin pecten , “comb”, are Mollusque S Bivalve S. the family includes/understands in particular the scallops and the Pétoncle S. These species are more or less inéquilatérales and inéquivalves, with generally a valve more reinflated than the other.

Pectinidés live on the fond ; they can be there attached using a Byssus (filaments that they secrete) or simply lying. Their valves can propel them in the event of escape.

One finds of them representatives of big size in all the océans ; several species are of commercial importance.
