Peak of Rochebrune
The Pic of Rochebrune is the culminating point of the Massif of Queyras, in the department of the Hautes-Alpes.
The top is accessible to hikers experienced, without much technical difficulty in the field of the Alpinisme. The uneven one cumulated is of 1200 m and it is necessary to count 7 to 8 hours of walk. A physical fine shape and an acclimatization with altitude are obviously necessary.
It is advised to envisage helmets, always making safe in mountain. A minimum of safety equipment must be carried all the same in the event of unforeseen (a cord, some snap hooks).
The departure takes place with the Col of Izoard (2361 m). It is necessary to take the north-eastern direction towards the " collar perdu" by a well marked path. Arrived at the lost collar, it is necessary to go down on other side (especially not to take one of the two peaks, misleading). One thus loses a hundred meters of uneven then the path becomes almost flat, moving towards the peak of Rochebrune.
After a few hours of walk, the way, in stones, becomes stiffer and one arrives finally at the Col of the doors. (2915 m).
The path continues northern direction, quite visible and marked many Cairns (attention with the stone falls…).
It arrives without any technical difficulty at collet, in breach of the summit edge of the peak of Rochebrune.
Slightly on the line while looking in direction of the top, it is necessary to go up by two or three meters of climbing without exposure to the vacuum, without technical difficulty. Behind this passage one finds a path well marked which goes up towards the top.
The true top is that of right-hand side, more in north, because there is an antenna concreted on each of the two tops. Still a little nonexposed climbing and one is with 3320 meters.
The descent is done by the same route.
