Peace of Rueil
The peace of Rueil , of the March 11th 1649, is a compromise which puts an end to the parliamentary Fronde which since 1644 opposes the Parlement of Paris to the royalty.
The negotiations are carried out with brilliance by the president of the Parliament of Paris, Mathieu Molé. The Parliament obtains, amongst other things, the amnesty for the members of Parliament, the suppression of the Intendant S and prohibition for the king to create new Office S.
In exchange, the Parliament cancels the decree of expulsion of Mazarin taken in January and promises not to more hold of assembly “for some causes and some pretexts and occasions that it is”. The Parliament thus commits itself giving up imposing itself like an independent countervailing power.
Anne of Austria and Mazarin await only one more favorable occasion to reconsider its very important concessions.
