Peace of Ponche Verde

The Paix of Poncho Verde is the treated final signed the February 28th 1845 by the Republican David Canabarro, in Poncho Verde, locality of Dom Pedrito and which put a term at the Guerre of Farrapos. The points of the agreement were:

• Riograndenses would choose the new president of the province it Baron de Caxias was named;

• the Empire would pay the Dette S of the republican Gouvernement;
• the Officier S republicans would be incorporated in the imperial Armée at the same stations, except for the general ;
• was declared free all the slaves who had fought in the troops républicaines' ¹ ;
• All the Procès of the republican Justice in Jugement would continue to be valid;
• the individual Safety and the Propriété would be guaranteed;
• All the Prisonnier S of Guerre would be returned to the province;
• the Officers and Soldat S which had adhered to the cause rebels would be amnestied and incorporated in the imperial Army;
• the Empire would definitively dissociate the border with Uruguay.

¹ Malgré this guarantee, many ex-soldiers black being taken along to Rio de Janeiro and sold like slaves without the Republicans protestent.

March 1st, the Caxias legalist declared pacified the Province. A well tied up agreement put an end to the Farroupilha Revolution. Officially without overcome nor victorious, a new time was going to be inaugurated. ----
