Peace and war enter the nations
Peace and war between the Nations are a work of Raymond Aron on the International relations.
Plan of work
Peace and war enter the nations is divided into four parts:
- Theory (concepts and systems)
- Sociology (determining and regularities)
- History (the planetary system at the thermonuclear age)
- Praxeology (discrepancies of the diplomatico-strategic action)
This plan translates the following step: Aron endeavors to release from the concepts useful for the analysis of the relations between political units, to explain these concepts, to show their application in the history since 1945, for finally seeking to know if it is possible to lay down rational rules in the control of the international relations.
International relations according to Raymond Aron
For Aron, which characterizes the international relations, it is the fact that contrary to the current situation in the order interns in the States, it does not exist authority higher than the States, holder of the monopoly of legitimate violence (according to the expression of max Weber). In the absence of supreme referee, each State has the right to resort to violence. The “international system” is thus the “unit consisted political units which maintain the ones with the others the regular relations and which are likely to be implied in a general war”.
