Paysandú is a town of Uruguay and capital of the department of Paysandú.
History
Paysandú was created by the Spanish at the beginning of colonization to have advanced station a near to the Brésil then Portuguese colony .Paysandú was high with the row of city ( ciudad ) the June 8th 1863 and in 1865, it was called “Paysandú the Heroic one” ( “Heroica Paysandú” ) because its 700 inhabitants (the people who could not fight had been evacuated before) directed by the Général Leandro Gómez resisted for two months the attacks of the general (and future dictator) Venancio Flores and of its allies Brésilliens before yielding the January 2nd 1865, rendering which showed the death or the imprisonment of the survivors.
Geography
The city is located on banks of the Río Uruguay, opposite the Argentine. By its demography, it is the third most important city of the country.
Economy
It is one of the most important industrial and commercial town of the country. The principal companies are centered on the production woven of Laine, the manufacture of Cuir, that of Bière, Ciment and Agrume S.
Sport
The Paysandú FC is a club of Football taking part in the Championnat of Uruguay of football.
