Pays Basque (town and country planning)
The Pays Basque is located in the department Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine. It was formed following the law Pasqua which makes country true a Territoire of project, based on a local will.
It includes/understands 158 communes for a surface of 2.967 km ².
These communes are distributed between several inter-commune structures:
- the Community of agglomeration of Bayonne-Rebated joint-Biarritz
- the Community of communes of Amikuze
- the Community of communes of the Country of Bidache
- the Community of communes of Garazi-Baïgorri
- the Community of communes of the Country of Hasparren
- the Community of communes of Iholdi-Ostibarre
- the Community of communes Nive-Adour
- the Community of communes of Drunk-Xiberoa
- trade union Nive-Bubble
and 11 isolated communes
- Bardos, the Country house-Clairence, Bidart, Biriatou, Boucau, Ciboure, Guéthary, Hendaye, Saint-Jean-with-Luz, Urt, Urrugne.
The name given to this country can induce in error while letting think that it gathers the communes of the old Basque provinces of the Labourd, of the Low-Navarre and the Soule. If that is true for the majority of the communes, the delimitation does not take account of certain communes like Bayonne and more still Boucau as well as the communes of the sector of Bidache, which are Gascon. It is acted in fact of a delimitation which follows the limits of the cantons.
Pays Basque 2010
The step Basque Country 2010 consisted, as from 1992, to carry out a diagnosis, to analyze the needs for the territory and to define 6 possible development schemes. This work completed by the elected officials and the representatives of the socio-professional world and the administration, finished in 1994.
In 1994 is created the Conseil of development of the Basque Country , then in 1995 the Conseil of the elected officials of the Basque Country . In 1996 a development scheme including/understanding is elaborate 94 projects.
The Basque Country is recognized like country in January 1997 by order of the prefect. In December CIAT takes into account 20 operations in a convention of development.
In December 2000 specific Convention Basque Country, valid for the period 2001 - 2006, associating the State, the area, the department, CABAB and the council of the elected officials take into account 70 operations. In February 2007 the assessment of specific convention reveals a completion rate of 88% of the operations envisaged.
Pays Basque 2020
The project Basque Country 2020 takes the continuation of the precedent. It was launched in July 2005.
