Payolle

Payolle is a village of the commune of Campan. It is located at the edge of a lake on the plate of Payolle , to 1100 m of altitude in the valley of the Adour de Payolle, in High-Bigorre in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées.

This plate, directed the south-eastern North-West, gives access to the collars of Beyrède (1417 m) and Aspin (1489 m). He is traversed by the forest road of the Hourquette d' Ancizan (1638 m). All these collars open on the Vallée of Aure.

It lodges the ski station Campan-Payolle, a family station on a site labellized France Ski touring .

The valley of Payolle leads to the Vallée of Campan with Holy-Marie-of-Campan.

Etymology

; Payolle: perhaps an alternative of fajola “hêtraie” (cf Basque pʰago “beech”). ; Pradille: diminutive of prat “pre” . ; Sarrat de Bon: two words pre-Latin: sarrat “buttress” and boun “hill, mount”. ; the Laurence: the laurença “fertile ground”. ; Séoube: the seuba “forest” (Latin silva ). ; Taillat: zone gained on the forest by frank cut - or coppice?
