Payload

The payload ( payload in English; the payload ) represents what is actually transported by given means of transport, and which give place to a payment or a nonpecuniary benefit to be transported.

The definition of " part; utile" can depend on the point of view of that which uses this term.

Transport

In the world of the Transport (road, maritime or air), the payload is also named Fret. The payload is the mass of the transported matter or the matter itself; to oppose to the mass of the plane, the boat or the truck with its crew, being used only to transport this payload.

Satellites

In the space Industry, one speaks about the payload of a satellite to indicate the part which enables him to fulfill the mission for which it was conceived, in opposition to the Plate-forme (or service modulates English ; the module of service , which provides energy to the unit and makes it possible to position the satellite). For example:
  • the antenna S
  • the Transponder S and Amplifying S of a satellite of Telecommunication S
  • the Camera S or Radiometer S for a Satellite of teledetection
  • the Telescope S for a Satellite of astronomy.

Missile

In a Missile, the payload is the mass of the warhead (explosive, chemical or biological).

Computer viruses

In Data-processing, one uses this term with illustrated to indicate the part of the achievable code of a virus which is specifically intended to harm (in opposition to the code used by the virus to retort itself in particular).

Drones

In the case of a Drone, the payload is made up of all the apparatuses embarked to achieve the mission, and which are also used for the autonomous flight. It is often made up of sensors, radars, cameras, laser illuminator… It makes it possible to collect information on the environment or to indicate a target. It should not be confused with the avionics, which includes the apparatuses being used only for the flight: accelerometer, gyrometer, GPS, altimeter…

Data-processing network

Useful data or quantity of useful data transported by a protocol.

Electricity

The load represents the consumption of electricity which must be provided by an electrical communication of distribution or transport.
