Payerne

Payerne is a common Suisse of the Canton of Vaud, located in the District of Payerne, of which it is the Chef-lieu.

Geography

Payerne is located at the edge of the Broye, with 457 meters above the sea level, in the North-East of the Canton of Vaud and with 17 kilometers of Freiburg as the crow flies.

History

Thanks to the gifts of his/her mother the queen Berthe de Souabe known as Berthe the filandiaire, the empress Adelaide of Burgundy (woman of Otton Ier of the Holy roman Empire) dissolved the Monastery of Payerne.
