Pavle Branović

Pavle Branović into Serb Cyrillic ПавлеБрановић , (917-923), wire of Brana Mutimirović, was sovereign Serb dynasty of the Vlastimirović.

The War against Byzance

Pavle became sovereign of Serbia after having driven out throne his/her uncle Petar Gojniković, thanks to the assistance of the Bulgarian ones.

In 920, Byzance recovered from its defeat against the Bulgarian ones, and sent against Serbia de Pavle, an army directed by Zaharija Pribislavljević, the son of Petar Gojniković. The Serb army of Pavle gained the battle against the Byzantines and captured Zaharija. Pavle sent it in Bulgaria, where it had to lend oath of obedience and was retained as an hostage at Siméon.

Policy change

Pavle owed its return on the throne of Serbia to Siméon Ier, and also had just overcome a Byzantine army. But in spite of this apparent pro-Bulgarian policy, it was perfectly conscious of the interest of Serbia to be the allied one of Constantinople rather than that of Bulgaria. And for this reason in 923, it is openly combined with the Byzantine Empire. Siméon sends the same year in Serbia an army with at its head Zaharija Pribislavljević which this time beat his/her Pavle cousin.

The loss of the capacity

One does not know what is occurred of Pavle after the battle. It is known only that Zaharija Pribislavljević was the new lord of the Serb ones.
