Pavezin

Pavezin is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

The village is all in top of the valley of Couzon, on the Northern slope of the Solid mass of the Pilat, right before the collar of the same name (652 meters of altitude).

History

The small village of PAVEZIN is known since 1225, however successively the names of: PAVAYSIN, PUVESIN, PAVEYSIN.

Before 1888, the commune of Pavezin was much wider than today. It was consisted of the two current communes: Holy-Cross-in-Jarez and Pavezin. The commune of co. Cross did not exist, there acted of chartreuse about Saint Bruno, founded in 1280.

With the revolution (1789), the monks were driven out. Since 1791, their properties were seized and sold like national goods and they have to leave their convent in 1792 definitively. The buildings of the monastery then were divided in batches and were sold with the biddings with the inhabitants of the surroundings which came to settle there, thus melting a new village in the commune of Pavezin: Holy-Cross-in-Jarez which became common in 1888. It remains however on the commune of Pavezin of many crosses testifying to the presence of chartreuse on the territory of the commune.

Today, Holy Cross is classified " one of the most beautiful villages of France". it is only to 3,5 km of the borough of Pavezin and to 5 km of the Collar of Pavezin.

Places and monuments

The village, located in full heart of the Park Of Pilat, is surrounded by paths and ways which make it possible to go for very pleasant walks with the meeting of this site without age and splendid panoramas. Legends there are met: those of the " cave with the fées" (it is located at 20mn steps approximately collar, by borrowing the path which assembles " on the right; the inn of the col"), of Lorette; and of the stories: those of " Toinette" , of the Gerin gangster, " the galoche" - which was the name of the train which served the village at time when that Ci was still connected by the rails - in good of others still.
