Pauline Bonaparte

Pauline Bonaparte , born Paoletta, is the second girl of Charles-Marie Bonaparte and the Maria-Létizia Ramolino, and most beautiful of the sisters of Napoleon Bonaparte. She was born the October 20th 1780 with Ajaccio, in the family home, and dies the June 9th 1825 with Florence. She was the preferred sister of Napoleon.

Biography

Youth

One knows very few things over the first years of his life. In 1793, to the 13 years age, it followed his/her mother, brothers and sisters, in the escape towards the Continent, after the family choice of the Revolution. She will quickly be courted initially, with the Salé castle in Antibes where the family lives after the Head office of Toulon, by Andoche Junot become aide-de-camp of Bonaparte, then by the Conventional Stanislas Fréron, whose Bonaparte does not want to intend to speak. To cross short to this idylle, Bonaparte makes come Paoletta to the castle from Mombello, close to Milan, where it reigns already like a proconsul…

Marriage

Napoleon francizes his first name as a Pauline to him and made him marry in 1797 Charles Victor Emmanuel Leclerc, one of the best generals of the Republic after having refused its hand with Duphot, that which found death in Rome in 1797, at the time of a riot. Later, the young sisters of the Leclerc general will marry, one the future marshal Davout and the other the major general Friant. The marriage is celebrated on June 14th, 1797. The following year they will have a fore-mentioned son Dermid, first name resulting from the poetry of Ossian. It accompanied her husband in forwarding by Saint-Domingue (currently Haiti), intended to subdue the rebellion carried out by All Saints' day Louverture.

In spite of the position of her brother, and because of the frequent absences of her husband in shift, Pauline had many adventures in Saint-Domingue, often with soldiers of low-row and officers. Although it was inaccurate, Pauline occupied herself, with courage, of her husband who had contracted the Yellow fever. He ends up dying about it on November 1st, 1802. The despair of Pauline was spectacular, it cut the hair and placed them in its coffin. She made put the heart of her husband in a ballot box and repatriated in France, the funeral skin.

The First Consul quickly sought a new husband and found it in the person of Camille Borghèse. It is a Roman prince having a rich person palate, vast domains and a beautiful revenue. After the marriage in 1803 with Mortefontaine in the property of Joseph, Napoleon bought the collection of art of the Borghèse which it intended for the Musée of Louvre. Pauline wearied herself quickly of Rome and came itself from there to live the Château of Neuilly, where it held a species of court, while Camille Borghèse left for the army in the consular Garde. In 1804, Pauline with the pain to lose her young person Dermid wire who had always been of weak constitution. But a few months later, Borghèse princess, it attends crowning. She then lives Rue of the Suburb-Saint-Honore in this Charost hotel (become then the British embassy).

In 1805, Camille Borghèse, major leave for the Camp Boulogne then is affected with the army of Germany, as colonel of Carabinier S and named general in 1807.

Pauline is high with the row of princess of Guastalla in 1806. Fall of Napoleon and fidelity

The relation of Pauline and Napoleon was marked by a major bond of fidelity and benevolence, unlike the other brothers and sisters of Napoleon. Being the largest admiror of Napoleon, it remained to him always faithful. She was the only one of Bonaparte to visit him during her exile on the isle of Elba. She used her own funds to improve the way of life of Napoleon to Elba (she placed at her disposal her diamonds which were taken with Waterloo in the car of the Emperor). In its last years, it approached prince Borghèse, and, pressed by the pope Leon XIII, lived with him with Florence. Its health declines and she dies of disease the June 9th 1825 with Florence, without descent, worried to have tried to repatriate her brother of Sainte-Hélène. Its coffin is transported to Rome and rests today in the Borghesiana vault with Sainte-Marie Majeure of Rome.

Venus de Canova

It was one of the more beautiful women of her time. The sculptor Canova immortalisé the beauty of Pauline Borghèse in sublime a Venus of Praxitèle of marble, laid down on a couch, simply vêtue of a cloth recovering his legs. Photograph. The other work of Canova, Galatea for which it would have posed, is with the museum of San Martino (original) and Mulini (copy) in the isle of Elba.
