Paulin Paris

Alexis Paulin Paris , born with Avenay-Valley-with Or the March 25th 1800 and died in Paris the February 13rd 1881, is a French historian of the literature, specialist in the medieval time .

He is preserving assistant of the manuscripts of the National library, elected member of the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1837, and professor with the Collège de France, where he is titular pulpit of language and literature Frenchwomen of the Middle Ages of 1853 with 1872. He is also Member of the Commission of the École of the charters, member of the Company of the French bibliophiles, Officer of the Legion of Honor and about Léopold.

He published the many ones of editions of the literary productions of the Middle Ages: tales of chivalry, chansons de geste, chronicles, correspondences. It in particular also translated complete works of Lord Byron.

Paulin Paris is the father of the palaeographer Gaston Paris, who succeeded to him the Collège de France.
