Paul de Noailles

Paul de Noailles , 6th Duke of Noailles, is a Historien French, born in Paris, the January 4th 1802 and dead the May 29th 1885.

Family

He married the February 5th 1823 Alice Victurnienne de Rochechouart-Mortemart (1800 - 1887), girl of Victurnien de Rochechouart, 8th Duc of Mortemart. They had three children:
  1. Pauline Victurnienne de Noailles (1823 - 1844), which married (1842) Marie Joseph Victor Maurice de Noailles, count de Noailles;

  2. Jules Charles Victurnien de Noailles (1826 - 1895), Duke of Ayen then 7th Duke of Noailles;
  3. Emmanuel Henri Victurnien de Noailles (1830 - 1909), marquis de Noailles.

Biography

Paul de Noailles was even of France in 1824 with the death of his great-uncle, Jean Louis Paul François de Noailles, 5th duke of Noailles, which did not have a male heir, but sat at the Room of the pars only to its majority in 1827.

It was distinguished as parliamentary speaker and historian, author of a Histoire of M {{me}} of Maintenon (whose Famille of Noailles collected the heritage thanks to the marriage of his/her niece with Adrien Maurice de Noailles).

Friend and confidant of Chateaubriant, it presented to the French Academy to succeed to him, with the support of M {{me}} Récamier, of the princess of Lieven and the duke Pasquier; he was elected on January 11th 1849 by 25 votes out of 31 voters, Honore de Balzac obtained 4 votes. This result raised angers and protests in the literary press and the public well-read man. The duke of Noailles, which formed with the Pasquier dukes and Victor de Broglie, the party of the dukes, was accepted on December 6th, 1849 by Henri Patin. He was senior of the Academy during seven days.

He was Chevalier of the Golden Fleece.
