Paul Verhoeven (API: vɛr' huvən) was born the July 18th 1938 with Amsterdam (Netherlands). It is Réalisateur Dutch. It is famous for its science fiction films enough violent one. The specialized press, in particular the magazine First, calls it even Dutch violate .

Biography

It makes its studies at the university of Leyde ( Leiden ) at the same time in mathematics and physics. It joined the navy Dutchwoman and it is in this service that it discovers the technique on film by carrying out the documentary ones. It is engaged by the television of the country. Its first success comes in 1969 with the televised series Floris (with Rutger Hauer). Its first film, Wat Zien Ik? , leaves in 1971 but is not particularly received. It continues to build its fame and following some international successes, such Soldaat van Oranje which obtains the Golden Globe, it emigrates with the the United States.

Other with dimensions of the Atlantic, it changes its style. Directing films with large budget and violent one, such Robocop (1987) and Total Recall (1990). It continues its successes with BASIC Instinct (1992) then failure of Showgirls (1995). After this film it returns to the violence which marked its first films and carries out Starship Troopers (1997) and Hollow Man (2000). It takes part in the Festival of the Scandinavian Cinema of Rouen in (2001).

In 2005, it returns to the Netherlands to make its first Dutch film since nearly thirty years, Black Book. Very large production on the scale Dutchwoman, the film knows a Net success, beating in breach the generally accepted ideas over the Second world war.
