Paul To mow

Paul Faucher (1898-1967) is the founder of the collection of children's literature of the Père Beaver and a pioneer of the new Éducation.

Biography

It founds in 1927 the French section of the International office of education in Geneva. It takes part this same year in the congress of the international Ligue for new education and become acquainted there with the Czech pedagog Frantisek Bakulé.

In 1932, the French ministry of the state education charges it with a mission in Central Europe: Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Poland, for purposes studied the new teaching methods of use in these various countries. In Prague, it finds Frantisek Bakulé, which makes him discover its teaching experiment near physical handicapped children or victims of the First World War. The children active, autonomous, are opened in the world and manage their time and their activities: the manual book, music, drawing, work and the sport have a place as important as the traditional matters of the schooling.

Paul To mow made known in France its work in 1929, and to hear the choral society and the puppet show of the children of his institute. Paul To mow meeting at the institute a collaborator of Bakule: Lida Durdikova which will become his wife in 1933.

About 1932, it is interested in children's literature and works out its first albums with the collaboration of his wife. Under the name of " Castor" father; (symbol of a constructive program), it is put at work with a team of collaborators who wanted to share his manners well of seeing. Its research task continues after a fashion during the Second world war.

In 1946, after the publication of a hundred albums, Paul Faucher opens the biblio-teaching Research center of the Workshop of the Father Beaver and, the following year, the École of the father Castor.

In 1954, the school counts about fifty children. It practices a Pédagogie activates where the music and the education by the movement hold an important place. It is the field of application of work of the workshop: the children of the school are the first readers of the albums of the Castor father. They also profit from the richness of the teaching equipment resulting from the workshop: cuttings, plays of logic, classifications, constructions geometrical etc

In 1961, the school, which accommodates a hundred and forty children then, requires a simple contract of the state education. But the request does not succeed, and the successive diseases of the director Germaine Girard, then Paul Faucher put an end to the school. A group of parents and the teaching ones will not be able to be resigned to this closing, and are constituted in association to create a school in the same spirit: the new school of Antony.

After disappearance Paul To mow in 1967, it is his/her son François Faucher who will take again the collection of the Father Beaver.
