Dom Paul Takes laths off , born with Jeumont (Northern) on March 27th 1848, deceased with Solesmes on September 20th, 1937, is the third Abbé of the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes.
Biography
Youth and university
Ordered priest on June 29th 1872, its intelligence remarkable intends it for the university education. It thus occupies at the 31 years age the Chaire of Philosophie of the catholic Université of Lille. He becomes Doctor of Divinity after a memorable defense of thesis.
Entry with Solesmes
With surprised his colleagues, it is withdrawn with the Monastère Saint-Pierre de Solesmes, the center of the restoration bénédictine in France, on September 28th, 1883. The Abbot of Solesmes is then Dom Couturier, which succeeds Dom Guéranger, refondator of the Ordre Benedictine in France, dead little time before in 1875.
He makes his profession on March 21st 1885, then is named Prieur in 1888.
Abbatiat
With died of Dom Dressmaker, on October 29th, 1890, the monks of Solesmes choose it to succeed to him. At that time, and since the spectacular expulsion of November 6th 1880, the community lives with the doors of the monastery. The daily offices are celebrated with the Abbaye Holy-Cecile de Solesmes, where with the parish church which is next to the monastery of Saint-Pierre.
August 23rd, 1895 the monks reinstate the Abbey. The third Abbot of Solesmes must increase the monastery become too small for a community in full rise. A new vaster refectory is inaugurated in 1898 In same time, Solesmes founds several monasteries, of which that of Holy-Anne de Kergonan.
But the Loi 1901 on associations, which is in fact a law against the congregations, forces Dom Delatte and its brothers to be exiled in England, on September 20th, on the island of Wight. The community settles in old the Abbaye of Quarr in 1908, after seven last years with the castle of Appuldurcombe. This episode however makes it possible the monastic life to know a revival in England Anglican.
End-of-life
Dom Delatte resigns of its load of Abbot in 1921, at the 73 years age, not being able more to assume the direction of a community like that of Solesmes, because of its infirmities (it is reached of Paralysie). Dom Cozien succeeds to him. He dies on September 20th, 1937, after 16 years of a simple and humble life.
