Paul Raymond is an archivist and French historian born the September 8th 1833 with Belleville (the Seine) (today Paris) and dead the September 27th 1878.
Course
Admitted in 1854 with the School of the charters, it left there Archiviste paleographer in 1857 thanks to a thesis entitled the plundering of the house and goods of the bishop (Ve-XIIIe century) . He was departmental archivist of the the Low-Pyrenees of his exit of the School of the charters until 1877. He was then named general secretary of the prefecture of the Low-Pyrenees.He was also general secretary of the “Company of Sciences, Lettres and Arts of Pau” of 1871 to 1877, then president of this company in 1877. It was a republican convinced “ paying without slackening of its person in all works of public property and popular instruction. He was the heart of the Company of Sciences, Lettres and Arts of Pau and one of the most active members of the jury of the primary education examinations, of the popular Library, etc ”.
It was an untiring researcher who undertook a general inventory of the funds of the Archives of the Low-Pyrenees. From this research, it drew from many materials which were published or used in many works of historical research or linguistics.
It took part in the drafting of the topographic Dictionnaire of France , including/understanding the old and modern place names, published by order of the imperial Minister for the State education.
The volume which it wrote, the topographic Dictionnaire of the department of the the Low-Pyrenees was published for the first time in 1863.
It also took part in the preparation of the Dictionnaire old and modern Béarnais published, under the aegis of Vastin Lespy, in 1887.
