Paul Nougé
Paul Nougé , born with Brussels the February 13rd 1895 and died in Brussels the November 6th 1967, is a Belgian Poète, instigator and theorist of the Surréalisme in Belgium, the " Breton belge" , one has says.
Biography
Born from French father of Charente-native extraction and Belgian mother, Paul Nougé follows the teaching of the French college of Brussels then engages in 1909 in studies of biological chemistry and works of 1919 to 1953 like biochemist in a medical laboratory. He is in 1919 founding member of the Belgian first Communist party. In November 1924 it creates the review " Correspondance" who publishes 26 leaflets until September 1925, with the collaboration of Camille Goemans and Marcel Lecomte, excluded in July 1925. Nougé meets the same year surrealist French, Louis Aragon, André Breton and Paul Éluard, sign thus the leaflet " The Revolution initially and toujours" , and made in 1926 the knowledge of Louis Scutenaire. Nougé and Goemans, Rene Magritte and E.L.T. approaching Mesens, September 1926 marks the outline of the constitution of the surrealist group of Brussels through the clothes industry of common leaflets, which André Souris joins.Nougé composes into 1927 of the diversions of the examples of the handbook of grammar of Clarisse Juranville, illustrated of five drawings of Magritte, and prefaces the exposure of Magritte to the gallery " Centaure" from Brussels. In 1928 it founds the review " Distances" , writes the poetic texts of the catalog of a merchant of furs, illustrated by Magritte (" The Samuel" catalog; , republished by Didier Devillez editor, Brussels, 1996) and prefaces it of an exposure of Magritte to the gallery " The époque" (signed by the " complices" Goemans, Mesens, Lecomte, Scutenaire and Souris) then pronounce in January 1929 with Charleroi a conference on the music which accompanies a concert directed by André Souris and an exposure by Magritte (" The conference of Charleroi" , published in 1946). Between December 1929 and February 1930 Nougé carries out nineteen photographs which will be published in 1968 pennies the title " Subversion of the images". In 1931 it prefaces the exposure which follows the return of Magritte to Brussels. Extracts of the " Images défendues" are published in 1933 in the fifth number of the " Surrealism with the service of Révolution". In 1934 Nougé cosigne " The action immédiate" in " Documents 34" whose Mesens is the writer, in 1935 " The Knife in the plaie" and publishes in 1936, in " The Beautifulones; from Brussels, Rene Magritte or the revelation objectifies . It is then with Mesens at the origin of the exclusion of the group of Andre Souris.
Mobilized in 1939 with Mérignac then with Biarritz, at the time of the war, as military male nurse, Nougé in 1941 an exposure, quickly closed by the Occupants prefaces, of photographs of Raoul Ubac in Brussels ( the sovereign experiment ) and publishes in 1943 the complete text of Rene Magritte or the defended images . Under the pseudonym of Paul Lecharantais it prefaces in January 1944 a new exposure of Magritte criticized by the collaborators of the Nazisme. In 1945 Nougé takes part in the exposure " Surréalisme" organized by the gallery of the editions Boétie of Brussels then, in 1946, makes appear the Conference of Charleroi and, under the title Élémentaires a foreword for the exposure of Magritte (" surrealism into full soleil") with the Dietrich gallery.
Paul Nougé dies in Brussels on November 6th, 1967.
