Paul Nothomb

Paul Nothomb was born in 1913 dead with Brussels in Belgium on February 27th 2006.

Left man of , friend of Andre Malraux, it would have inspired the character of Attignies in the Espoir. He was the large uncle of the novelist Amélie Nothomb.

He becomes resistant after the Guerre of Spain. Productions Pink Night collected in 1999 its testimony and that of his/her partner on the Malraux flotilla, and a book was born three years later on its engagement in the conflict. Resisting during the Second world war, it falls to the hands from Gestapo which tortures it, it cracks, is joined the enemy, delivers information to him and is found, with the Release, condemned to the prison.

Novelist and philosopher, he proposes a second reading of the texts of the Bible, out of the guns. Referring to the rough text, he denounces mistranslations, and offers a new lighting of the Genèse in particular.

The paradox logico-mathematics of the " Mal"

Starting from a rigorous interpretation of the Genesis, fine expert of Hebrew whom he learns and teaches, Paul Nothomb introduced with the comprehension of the notion of the " Mal" and of the Fall through the behavior of Adam with respect to Eve. By naming Eve vis-a-vis him as being object of its knowledge to him, " that-là" , it rabroue to some extent with a logical statute lower than his, him which however became since the appearance of Eve, its equal to whole share. Nothomb practically implies that the word of Adam to designate Eve has value of Verb and determines the continuation of the events.

Being named by Adam, Eve is determined by this way of being named by Adam. In other words, in the way in which Adam (die) considered it, in the way in which she (die) will consider the things, and a fortiori God himself, because it is a question of perception above all.

Thus, Paul Nothomb establishes the argument that the Fall proceeds in the way in which Adam perceived Eve with the whole beginning of their report/ratio, according to logic that " the origin determines the fin". This argumentation is not only very plausible, but really judicious. It deserves a fuller explanation.

Let us start from an allegory to illustrate this matter. If a cat qualifies another cat in a logical statute of not-equal, " that one, this cat-là" , it confers to him in its perception a statute lower than his, like object of a knowledge and not like subject of knowledge equal to him. This cat is caught consequently for the whole of the cats which it surmounts starting from its own perception. It breaks its logical place as a whole to which it belongs. Instead of being an element of a unit, it leaves there by its proferation another element which it lowers with a statute of object and not of equal.

Another example, a husband called to his wife how the household must function. Of element in a system (the family), it is caught for the family and dictates the rules, lowering his wife in the obeying condition of object of this unit. Consequently, him which is at the beginning an element of this unit, of the same logical value as his wife, becomes to some extent the system itself. It is that the parodoxe logico-mathematics, when an element of a system is caught for the system.

When Eve thinks of the words of the Snake, she concludes from it that the recommendation of God, God himself, is an element among others of its reflection, an object of the system which one can replace by another more attractive aspect. All in all, it is it which decides of which values turn over the system to which it belongs. God is not any more with the eyes of Eve the representative of the system, the rule to follow to live in this system. Consequently, vis-a-vis Eve, God is not any more the system, therefore, the system is not any more. They are " chassés" paradise. Their vision the hunting of a logical quality which made their origin, the creation OF God, and its Demonstration, the presence of Adam and Eve to the Paradise.

The reading of the Genesis of Paul Nothomb specifies that the perception of Eve with respect to God falls on that of Adam with respect to it, the Snake being only one catalyst which accelerates the psychic reaction to some extent.

This reading is considerable in its range. For example, all the psychoanalysis is of agreement to include/understand perversion as being an element of a system which emerges from this system by a kind of disproportion (fixing, exaggeration of the desire, etc). Thus, the component instinct émancipe of the genital primacy. For example, the pleasure of the eyes of Voyeuriste is more important than the genital purpose of the sexual excitation. Genital primacy being the fertilizing logic which wants that all that marks out the meeting towards the sexes has direction only for this sexual relationship known as genital. Instead of passing by the skin, the eyes, the postures, the odors, etc, as in as many stages towards the introduction of the male sex into the sex female, the libido stagnates in a particular stage and emerges from the vital priority of the reproduction. The element overflows its system and uproots logic of its origin to become its own end. It is the definition of the absolute, being to oneself its own destination, to make system by oneself with the detriment of the remainder, i.e. the most common aspect allotted to the " Mal".

The hypostasis of the " Mal"

Hypostasier consists in regarding wrongly as a reality in oneself, absolute. The rigor of the interpretation of Paul Nothomb denounces this logic of hypostasis of the " Mal". According to its translation, the " Mal" do not exist in the biblical Genesis. All (tob is good) and it is possible that they are less good. There is no negation, of autonomous antagonistic entity in its gasoline. The attitude is described like in conformity with the origin, and they is good, even very good; if not it is not in conformity with the origin, and it is " less bon" , but it is not " Mal" in a strict sense. Indeed, the autonomisation of the " less bon" in a concept of the " Mal" in itself a signature of the will of withdrawal of the element out of its system of origin is, a verbal manner to want to grant a final statute to this separation - absolute would be righter. In fact, a manner of speaking, not conforms at the origin. These aspects are studied in its book “the memory of the Eden” in which we can read this terrible sentence on page 121: “The loss of its familiarity with God condemns it to the religion”.
