Paul Morand , born the March 13rd 1888 with Paris and dead the July 23rd 1976, is a French writer. Novelist, short story writer and essay writer, he was also diplomat. He is regarded as one of the fathers of the modern style in literature.

Biography

His/her Eugene father occupies in Paris several functions related to art: conservative of the Deposit of the marbles in 1902, director of the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of decorative Arts in 1908. He also attends the poets, of which the circle of Mallarmé, artists and the sculptors, of which Rodin, during the youth of Paul.

The Paul young person learns English very early and goes to London on several occasions during his adolescence (1902, 1903,1904,1908,1909,1913). He visits also Venice and the Italy of North and, each summer, remains for one month close to the Lac of Like.

It misses the oral examination by philosophy of its baccalaureat, in 1905. Jean Giraudoux becomes his tutor and Paul very transforms blow into assiduous pupil.

He integrates the Private school of political sciences, then makes a success of the contest of the Quay of Orsay. While beginning in the Career, he attends the literary circles, becomes acquainted with Proust and tests himself with poetry by composing a Ode in Marcel Proust .

Its first texts published are poems, in particular Arc lamps in 1919. But it enters truly in literature with the publication, in 1921, of its first work in prose, Tendres stocks , a collection of news prefaced by Proust.

In the years 1920-30, he writes many books, accounts of voyage, novels short and new, which strike by the dryness of the style, the genius of the formula and the promptness of the account, but also by the fine description of the countries crossed by the author or his characters, generally of high bourgeoisies cultivated with the broad ideas.

One of the striking facts of the life of Morand is its attitude during the Second world war and its proximity with the mode of Vichy. After putbeing put at the retirement of office in 1940, it is named, at the time of the return of Pierre Laval to the Government in 1943, ambassador of France in Romania. Jean Garden, 3eminence grise of Pierre Laval, supports his departure of Bucharest in 1944, at the time of advanced Russian troops, and the fact of naming in Switzerland. When the War finishes, he is ambassador with Bern, which is worth to him to be revoked with the Libération and the constrained one with the exile in Suisse.

In its Swiss exile, Morand is devoted to the continuation of its work, marked by new orientations and in particular by a new interest for the History. It also becomes, with Jacques Chardonne, the model and the guard of a new generation of writers whom one will call the Hussards.

Its attitude during the War is worth a solid to him enmity of the general de Gaulle, which will prevent a long time its entry with the French Academy. It is elected there on September 24th 1968 with the armchair of Maurice Garçon, one of his more savage adversaries at the time of the election lacked 1958.
