Paul Kossoff
Paul Kossoff , (September 14th 1950 - March 19th 1976) was a British guitarist , mainly known to have been member of the group Free between 1968 and 1973. Its blazing play is in particular remarkable on pieces such as The Hunter or Mr. Big .
Biography
Paul Kossoff, wire of the actor David Kossoff, starts to play in the middle of the Années 1960 and gives its first professional concert with the Black Cat Bones, in company of the beater Simon Kirke. The group made in particular many first parts for Fleetwood Mac like Peter Green (guitarist of Fleetwood Mac). Black Cat Bones also played for the pianist of blues Champion Jack Dupree.In 1968, the pair Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke joined Paul Rodgers and Andy Fraser to form the group Free. The group obtained success with its third album Fire and Water and its tube All Right Now in 1970. However the problems of Paul Kossoff with the Drogue led it to lose of its influence within Free as of this same year. In the opinion of beater of the group, Simon Kirke, this dependence with the Drug and the descent into Hell of Kossoff, would be the direct consequence of died of Jimi Hendrix, his idol of always whose disappearance has it strongly affected. The group separated first once in 1971. Kossoff benefitted from it to leave an album entitled Kossoff, Kirke, Tetsu and Rabbit , always in company of Simon Kirke, and with John Bundrick and Tetsu Yamauchi.
Free was reformed in 1972 and left the album Free At Last then Heartbreaker in 1973. However on this last album, Andy Fraser had already left the group and Paul Kossoff was credited only as additional musician on certain titles, being unable to ensure his role of guitarist because of his addiction the Drogue. Free separated definitively in 1973.
Whereas Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke formed Bad Company, Kossoff carried out an album solo entitled Back Street Crawler . In order to defend this album on scene it formed a group around him, also named Back Street Crawler. The group left two other albums before the death Paul Kossoff, who died on board a Avion between Los Angeles and New York, the March 19th 1976, following problems in the middle consecutive with its dependence with drug.
