Paul Johann Anselm von Feuerbach

Paul Johann Anselm Ritter von Feuerbach (* November 14th 1775 with Hainichen close to Iéna; † May 29th 1833 with Frankfurt on the Hand), German Criminal jurist.

He was wire of a lawyer. After being itself made known by Research on the crime of high treason and on the Revision of the principles of the criminal right , it opened in 1799 courses with léna, was named in 1801 professor of the university of this city, also taught with Kiel, then at Landshut in Bavaria, fixed themselves in this last country, and became intimate adviser and president of the Court of Appeal of Anspach.

There is of him a Manuel criminal right , Giessen, 1801, traditional work on the matter.

It wrote in 1813 a Nouveau Penal code , which was adopted for Bavaria and was used as a basis for the codes of the Wurtemberg and several other States (it was translated into French, by Charles Vattel, 1852).

Feuerbach is one of the chiefs of the school of the Rigoriste S, which stick to the letter of the law, not leaving anything to arbitrary the judge. It bases the criminal legislation on a kind of intimidation which it calls forced psychological.
