Paul Héraud
Paul Héraud was born the May 24th 1906 with Saint-Victor-the-Coste (30). It is the last born of five children. It makes its studies at the elementary school of the place of Verdun at Gap. It obtains its elementary patent at 15 years.
Paul Héraud learns the trade from craftsman chaisier and becomes often solitary impassioned mountaineer, enthusiast of the mountain, it makes a success of the most difficult rises. He is considered and liked of all for his charity and his courage.
He becomes chief of the frank Groups, then in 1944 departmental chief of the French Forces of the interior, from now on known under the name of commander Dumont . It is a man of action, heart of resistance in the department, it carries out a clandestine fight in mountain and leads the most daring operations of resistance. He dies in 38 years, the August 9th 1944, on the motor bike of the Meyere gendarme vis-a-vis a German column, with the new Home.
Paul Héraud appears quickly like a strong personality: “Invaded France: freedom dies, a chief is not improvised, it appears”.
As of winter 40, it poses the problem: “One cannot remain thus, it is necessary to do something”. He studies technical books and acquires military knowledge, a tactical direction. He endeavors to rectify the spirits and to prepare a resistant mentality. He organizes a clandestine army with colonel Lebeau.
In 1942, it contacts resistance movements which are organized in the area, and brings together men: Moreaud, Pascal, whose only objective is: “To return to the country its freedom and to return to the French their freedoms”. Paul Héraud will deal with the military organization with the commander Ricard. The department is divided into sectors, each sector has its chief and his maquis.
In 1943, it coordinates the activity of the Frank Groups, Maquis and " Fer" and it is named regional, assistant chief GF.
In 1944: He will be departmental chief of the French Forces of the interior FFI Man of action, one sees it leading very daring operations, like the outage of the factories of Argentière. Destruction of deposits of engines, sabotages, receptions of parachutings etc
