Paul Guldin

Paul Guldin or Habakuk Guldin is a Astronome and Mathématicien Suisse born with Saint-Gall in 1577, died with Gratz in 1643.

In 1597, it abjures the Protestant religion and takes the first name of Paul. It enters to the Jésuites which send it to improve its mathematics with Rome. He professes then mathematics with Rome, Vienna and Gratz.

The essence of its mathematical work are in its work Centrobaryca (about the Barycentre S) which appears in 3 volumes (1635, 1640, 1641) in which one finds both rules which bear its name. Paul Guldin is a scientist recognized at his time. In the work of Paolo Casati ( Terra machinis mota 1658), Casati imagines a dialog in Guldin, Galileo and Marin Mersenne on problems concerning the Cosmologie, the Géographie, the Astronomie and the Géodésie.
