Paul Gilson

Paul Gilson (1904-1963) is a writer and a man of radio operator French.

Its work includes/understands poems, accounts, tests, plays, films, but it is especially known for its multiple activities with the radio.

Come with the radio by journalism, it creates in 1937 on the waves of Radio-Luxembourg the emission " Bench of essai" for which many writers give him texts (Jean Cocteau, Blaise Cendrars, André Beucler, Robert Desnos…).

In 1944, it becomes to defer to Radio-Assembles-Carlo. After having permanent delegate of French Broadcasting in New York, it is destined for Paris where Wladimir Porché entrusts to him in 1946 the position of director of the artistic Services of French Broadcasting, which it will occupy until his death.

It multiplies there the retransmissions of spectacles and the emissions carried out in studio. Entrusting a " Office of poésie" with Andre Beucler, it calls upon Loys Masson, Philippe Soupault, Nino Frank, Georges-Emmanuel Clancier. With Henry Barraud, it supports the modern music. With " Art and the vie" (1946) it creates the first weekly magazine on the visual arts. It is still him which launches in 1955 the " Small academy of the chanson" of Mireille and " Play of the 1000 francs".

To pay homage to him, the Public French-speaking Radios decree each year the Grand Prix Paul-Gilson intended to reward the talents for each radio of the community.

Its decisive contribution with radiophonic creation threw a little too much shade on the literary work of that which his/her friend Blaise Cendrars called " large Paul".
