Paul Géraldy

Paul Géraldy , pseudonym of Paul Lefèvre (Paris 1885 - Neuilly-sur-Seine 1983), is a French poet and playwright.

It publishes its first collection the small hearts in 1908. He is a very great popular success - what will not be re-examined front any more Prévert - with its second collection You and me in 1912.

Its theater is a traditional psychological theater, which it revivifies thanks to a subtle apprehension of the family relations within the intellectual lower middle class of the inter-war period.

Its poetry sensitive, is sometimes qualified the obsolete one ( the lamp-shade ), which is worth then a certain success near the women. It delivers its confidences with words of the every day ( You and me ).

Géraldy was unfortunately omitted anthology of the French poetry of Pierre Seghers, which made it almost unknown of the generation born after war. The journalist Jean-François Kahn will redécouvrira it and will make it redécouvrir with the public the time of a television program to the beginning of the year 80.

Some extracts

  • Dualism
Cherished, explains me why
you say: “ my piano, my pink”,
and: “ your books, your dog”… why
I intend you to declare sometimes:
“it is with my money with me
that I want to buy these things. ”

What belongs to me belongs you!

Why these words which oppose to us:
the tien, mine, mine, the tien?
If you liked me completely,
you would say: “ the books, the dog”
and: “ our pink”.

  • On photography:

the memory is a poet
do not make of it a historian
( You and me )
  • On the passage of time:

Forty years: maturity!
More force, less health.
More pace, less beauty.
More height, less pride.
Less appetites, more requirements.
Less dash, more will.
Less faith, more authority.
Less heart, more humanity.
