Paul Ferdinand Stanislas Dermoncourt
Paul Ferdinand Stanislas Dermoncourt is a French soldier born with Crécy-with-Mount (Aisne) the March 3rd 1771 and died in 1847.
Biography
In 1789, it takes part in the Storming of the Bastille , and enters immediately afterwards the company Odiot (Quartier of the hillock Saint-Roch) of pomegranates of the national guard of Paris.Volunteer in the 3rd battalion of the Aisne the September 4th 1791, pomegranate sergeant and quartermaster-sergeant the April 4th and July 3rd 1792, it makes this year campaign to the Armée with North, is with the Combat of Quiévrain, and embarks with Lorient for the Martinique, with the general Rochambeau. Arrived at Santo Domingo, he manages to bring back for the police chiefs Convention, Polverel and Santhonax, the troops which still held for Esparbès, dispossessed governor.
In November, with the head of its company, all the officers being sick, it seizes Pelle held by the natives, that it puts in rout.
Put at the order of the army, the December 19th, for this act of war, it receives the same day the rank of lieutenant, and that of captain on December 28th.
It leaves, on October 1st 1793, for Philadelphia, in order to restore its health there. Taken by corsairs of the islands Bermuda, rejected at sea by a storm, he arrives finally Philadelphia, where an epidemic of Yellow fever prevails which makes 22.000 dead among the colonists.
He contracts this disease, but survives it. He profits, to return in France, of the departure of a large convoy of the Baie of Chesapeake, which takes place on April 21st, 1794, and it arrives at Brest on June 11th.
Imprisoned during a few days as all those which came from overseas, attached then to the Armée with the coasts of Brest, it fights in Quiberon on July 11th, and goes back to Brest, where it fulfills the functions of adjudant of place. October 4th, 1795, it is with Paris, and the 5, it defends Convention with the Combat of Saint-Roch.
Named 23 germinal year IV assistance-of-camp of the general Alexandre Dumas, it went with him in Italy, then, after the Bataille of Rivoli and the rendering of Mantoue, it followed it in the the Tyrol. The general-in-chief Napoleon Bonaparte, informed by the general Joubert of control of this officer during the countryside, quoted it with praises in his report/ratio with the government.
Become captain in the 3rd regiment of dragons the 6 brumaire year VI, it was useful in Am E, embarked with Toulon the 30 floréal with the expeditionary Armée with the East, and made the campaigns of Egypt and Syria until year IX. The Battle of Aboukir, Thermidor 7 year VII, the colonel Duvivier, who had the cavalry under his orders, having been killed, the Dermoncourt captain succeeded to him in this command until his replacement by the general Roise, and acted with as much intelligence than of courage. He fulfills his mission in spite of the repeated attacks of the Arab S; the answer of the admiral was verbal, it was limited to this little words: the wind is good . The Dermoncourt captain deferred it exactly to the general-in-chief, who soon after shingled towards the France. He announced himself to the Bataille of Héliopolis, close to Coraïm, where he helped Kléber, and with the resumption of Cairo.
The general-in-chief Menou recognized his services by appointing it major with 14th of dragons the 4 messidor year VIII.
With the Second battle of Aboukir, the 30 ventôse year IX, reached of a shot to the throat, it did not leave the command, rejoined its body and supported the retirement with a great energy. Returned to France under the terms of the Convention of Alexandria, confirmed in its last rank by the First Consul, the 15 ventôse year X, it passed in the 22e regiment of cavalry; but this regiment having been built-in the cuirassiers, one sent it in the 21e dragons, the 13 pluviôse year XI. In year XII the first Consul named it, the 23 frimaire, major of 11th of cuirassiers, and the 4 germinal member of the Légion of honor.
He was used for the Large army, of year XIV with 1807. Fact colonel of the 1e of dragons, the April 5th of this last year, it led its regiment to fire for the first time, the June 12th, with the Bataille of Heilsberg, and for the second time, the 14, with Friedland. At the beginning of 1813, it took with Mainz the command of a regiment of walk, and went to the army close to Bautzen. With the Combat of Rechenbach, it made several happy loads and had a horse killed under him. It is during the armistice that the Emperor raised it, the July 22nd, with the Brigadier general rank of , and the command of the cavalry of the 5th body entrusted to him.
It was with the businesses of Goldberg, of Lœwenberg, Leipzig and Hanau, and the Emperor gave him the cross of commander of the Legion of honor, the December 4th; the 25 it was with Neuf-Brisach, charged to supervise work and the provisioning of this place.
