Paul Brunelle

Paul Brunelle (June 10th, 1923 - November 24th, 1994) was a Auteur-compositeur-interprète and guitarist Country and Western Québécois. Its first recordings date from the Années 1940 and 1950. He is regarded as the pioneer of the country to the Quebec and the independent source of influence of the artist who was going to popularize the kind, Willie Lamothe.

Biography

Born in 1923, Paul Brunelle belongs to the small singers of Granby, his birthplace, at the beginning of the Années 1930. Employed with the To undermine Rubber, it buys with credit its first Guitare for 6,50$.

During the war, it gains twice, in 1943 and 1944, the contest of amateurs of the Living room Room Furniture, organized by the radio AM CKAC. It launches in 1945 its first 78 turns, marketed by RCA Victor, seeking an artist to compete with the Soldat Lebrun. “Women, who you are pretty” appears in September, then “My child, I forgive you” in October of the same year. This last piece is an adaptation in French of the traditional Chanson “ When it' S springtime in the Rockies ”. The success of Brunelle is immediate. It will also animate in 1945 an emission on the waves of CKAC, and will sell apparently 200.000 copies of “cruel Destiny”. Will follow inter alia “On this white rock” in December 1946, “By one night of stars” in August 1947, then in 1948, “the song of the vagrant” (in April) and “With far over there in my meadow” (in July).

1949 with 1951, Paul Brunelle leaves in round through Quebec with Antoine Grimaldi. His wife, Suzanne Brunelle, accompany the troop, which offers also dance and numbers of humor. The troop will visit possibly the Ontario and the Seaboard provinces.

Of 1955 with 1957, it will animate daily with the radio CKVL, with Montreal, the emission " Paul Brunelle and his Troubadours".

In the Years 1960, a contract with London and RCA Victor makes it possible to the singer to launch in 33 turns several compilations of its old successes.

Paul Brunelle is considered, at the sides of Marcel Martel and Willie Lamothe, like one of the three large ones of the Québécois western. Brunelle is regarded as that which has established bases of country of Belle Province, before Wille Lamothe makes the kind popular near more a general public in the decades which followed, in particular by the means of the Télévision and its popular emission the ranch in Willie .

Paul Brunelle continued his career until at the beginning of the Années 1980, whereas a cancer of the throat obliges it to put an end to its career of musician. In the last years of its life, it will appear on scene only on rare special occasions, for the last time in 1992. It is deceased in 1994 in its birthplace, Granby.

The Expérience label marketed in 2005 a compilation on compact disk of sixteen remasterized successes, in an original manner recorded between 1945 and 1957.
