Paul Belmondo , born with Algiers the August 8th 1898, died with Paris on January 1st 1982, is a Sculpteur French. He is the father of Alain and Jean-Paul Belmondo.

Biography

He was born in a modest family of Italian origin (Piedmont and Sicily) in Algiers or he will pass his youth. He makes his primary studies at the Dordor school with Algiers. Impassioned Drawing, it starts to carve as of the 13 years age. It will then follow studies of Architecture to the School of the Art schools of Algiers, stopped by the First World War. It is gauze with the battles of Saint-Mihiel, it is demobilized.

Thanks to a purse of the government of Algeria, it continues its studies with Paris where he becomes the pupil, then the friend, of Charles Despiau. it obtains Large the Prix of Rome and the Blumenthal Price in 1926. It Marie in Paris in 1930 (3 children will be born from this marriage, Alain, Jean-Paul and Muriel). It obtains the artistic Grand Prix of Algeria in 1932 then the Grand Prix of the town of Paris in 1936. Post-war period, it receives many government orders, in particular for the Palais of Chaillot with Leon-Ernest Drivier and Marcel Gimond. He becomes professor with the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts of Paris in 1956 and member of the Institut in 1960.

He dies in 84 years on January 1st, 1982 in Paris.

Its workshop was located in old stables, which occurred Denfert-Rochereau in Paris.

Work

Its carved work fits in a neo-classic current, with the research of the harmony by single circuit lines and smooth forms. Museum Paul Belmondo

Jean-Paul Belmondo, its brother Alain and his Muriel sister made donation in March 2007 at the town of Boulogne-Billancourt of the whole of works of their father whom they had, that is to say 259 sculptures, 444 medals and almost 900 drawings as well as notebooks of sketch and preliminary works.

Emmanuel Bréon, conservative of the Musée of the Thirties of Boulogne-Billancourt east one of the best experts of the work of the sculptor have been at the origin of the establishment in his town of this museum than wished to see being born Jean-Paul Belmondo for several years.
